A NEW OFFERING: TECHNOLOGY HELP IN THE LIBRARY
FOWL are delighted to announce a new initiative in the library; Free Technology Help! Would you like some practical help using technology? Perhaps assistance with email/documents, spotting scams, editing photographs, using QR codes, shopping online or managing files.
Starting this month, we will be running a new programme of free monthly technology help sessions, generously funded by a grant from Watlington and District Age Concern (WADAC). Each session lasts one hour and gives you the opportunity to ask questions and receive friendly guidance. You are welcome to come with or without your own device. Please note that these sessions do NOT provide IT diagnosis or repairs.
Sessions will be held at 10am and 11am on the first Wednesday of the month; October 7th, November 4th, December 2nd.
Spaces will be limited, so please pop into the library to reserve your free place and let us know what you would like help with.
ART IN THE LIBRARY Have you viewed local artist Jackie Hughes’ gorgeous exhibition yet? Entitled ‘Still Life with Flowers’ her work explores ordinary and sometimes beautiful domestic objects linking things, patterns, surfaces, shapes and colours. Do pop in and admire it.
FOWL FA Our wonderful FA team are hatching a plan to hold a Harry Potter Event aimed at 8-12 year olds sometime in the next couple of months. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and in the library for further details. In the meantime, Rhymetime will fall on October 6th and 20th; Storytime on October 3rd and 17th and Lego Club on October 31st.
AUTHOR TALKS In September we were treated to an exceptional evening by Dr Heather Elgood MBE, who shared some of her extensive expertise on the Mughal Empire with a packed audience of those lucky enough to get a ticket. What a fascinating night; a real privilege to be shown such exquisite paintings and architecture with such an expert guide leading the way. Huge thanks to her. Tickets had sold out within days; if you missed out, remember moving forward that FOWL members have a priority booking period for author talks.
This month, we will be holding our AGM on October 15th at 8pm.
Looking ahead to November, to mark Remembrance Day, David Keable-Elliott will be joining us on November 20th for a very personal talk about his grandfather’s experiences in World War I. Watch out for when tickets become available.
COLOURS OF WATLINGTON CALENDAR We will be launching our new calendar for 2027 at the end of this month. It will be available in the library, The Granary Delicatessen and Watlington Fine Wines for £10 including an envelope; the perfect, dare I say it, Christmas gift!!
