July In The Library

FOWL CALENDAR COMPETITION 2027 is OPEN. Have you entered yet? The competition to create our next calendar for 2027 runs until the end of this month (1st August). This year, the theme for the calendar is: ‘Colours of Watlington’. The possibilities are endless; interpret this brief however you like. The competition ends on the 1st August. For details of how to enter just pop into the library or email fowlphotocompetition@gmail.com

July also heralds the start of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge; running in all Oxfordshire libraries until the beginning of September. This year, in partnership with Universal Music Group UK, the theme is Read to the Beat – highlighting the joy of reading inspired by music. Medals, certificates and entry into a special prize draw are all up for grabs for children taking up the challenge over the summer, with a special mini-challenge also available for the under 4s. For more information either pop into the library – or visit www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/summer-reading-challenge  and go to summerreadingchallenge.org.uk

ART IN THE LIBRARY We are so enjoying the U3A Thursday Art Group Summer Exhibition, currently on our display boards until the 24th of this month. The U3A Thursday Art Group meet regularly and work alongside each other, drawing on their shared skills and knowledge. Two artists at a time have been exhibiting for two weeks at a time – and it has been such a joy to see such a wealth of talent and such a variety of styles! Do come in and admire their work.

Later in the month we are looking forward to an exciting new exhibition by Rachel Gill, so there will be lots of wonderful art to enjoy in the library throughout the month.

FAMILY HISTORY SESSIONS Don’t forget if you would like to research your family history you can get help from an expert; pop into the library and book a one-hour one-to-one session with our family historian volunteer who is available on the third Thursday of the month.

FOWL FA We have a very special treat in store coming up in August. FOWL is funding a visit from the Big Bubble Theatre company to perform ‘Wonderland’; a fun interactive play for primary-aged audiences inspired by Alice in Wonderland and created to celebrate the joys of books and reading. Look out for further details nearer the time; spaces will be limited and, whilst free, will need to be reserved at the library.

This month Storytime falls on July 4th and 18th, whilst Rhymetime falls on July 7th and 21st.  Lego Club will be taking its summer break and will be back on September 26th.
