What we do

FOWL is a registered charity which exists to protect, support and promote the library.

In all that we do, we aim to promote the library as the wonderful resource that it is; a social, cultural and educational hub of value to all members of our community.

Did you know:

  • We sign a formal legal agreement with Oxfordshire County Council which commits us to funding the Customer Services Advisor position. This ensures that the library is fully staffed every day that it’s open, with the full range of services available
  • We provide volunteers to assist the librarians when the library is open
  • We produce financial assistance where necessary for specific things that the library may need – for example, a children’s craft table and chairs, a mobile children’s book carrier, and seating for library events
  • The Library has on display a replica set of some of the most beautiful pieces of silver from the Watlington Hoard – a hugely significant hoard of Viking treasure found near the town in 2015. We have experts on hand who, with advance notice, can enlighten you with more information
  • The FOWL Family Activities group runs regular Story Times, Rhyme Times, and a monthly Lego Club, in the library. We also subsidise activities such as Rhubarb Theatre Group, Zoolab visits and interactive author talks
  • The Library offers facilities such as computers, printing, Family History sessions, and a wide range of jigsaws for all ages to borrow
  • Local artist Jen Skene draws wonderful seasonal pictures on our Library window
  • Events organised by FOWL promote local authors
