FOWL in the Watlington Times : December in the library

We had a really interesting evening with award-winning novelist Carolyn Kirby on November 17th when she came to talk about her highly praised novel When We Fall; a gripping Second World War II thriller chosen by The Times and Sunday Times as one of the ten best historical novels of 2020. Huge thanks to her. What a wonderful way to finish a busy year in the library. Thank you to all our speakers and art exhibitors this year and to all our many volunteers for all they have done in so many ways to keep our library flourishing. A community library is a precious resource that offers so much to the people of Watlington and we are so grateful to all those who recognise its value and help FOWL to protect, promote and support it.

Now, we are very much looking forward to the New Year, with a number of exciting events planned. First up; on January 19th we have a major talk planned in St Leonard’s Church, when Lord Jay of Ewelme, former British Ambassador to France and Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, will be telling us all about his fascinating diplomatic career with his talk Travels of an Ambassador.  Watch out for when general tickets sales start after priority booking for the Friends members; OR why not become a member and help support FOWL and get priority booking for FOWL events!

FOWL FA

The library will be buzzing on December 2nd with special Christmas Activities running from 10am-1pm to coincide with the Christmas Fair, with another Storytime on December 16th and Rhymetime on December 12th.  We have a terrific team of volunteers at FOWL FA; heartfelt thanks to all of you for your many creative and dynamic contributions throughout the year. The families of Watlington are lucky to have you.

ART IN THE LIBRARY

Come and admire our beautiful Christmas window courtesy of the fabulous Jen Skene and see the new James Kelso and the Watlington Seasons photography exhibition on show…there is always a warm welcome to be had in the library; courtesy of our wonderful library staff. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Have you bought your calendar yet? There is still time! Each calendar comes with a sturdy envelope should you need to post it, all for the very reasonable price of £9.  It makes a perfect gift! Also, don’t forget we now have a selection of new notecards featuring some of the 2024 images to add to our notecard collection.

All of the FOWL Trustees join me in wishing our community a very happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and a brighter 2024.
