We were delighted to host local author Sue Palmer’s terrific Story Starter Sessions on our Facebook page in June and July. In four parts, she tackled everything from plot to character development and everything in between! The resultant entries to our Short Story competition were a bold and eclectic mix including poetry and a chaptered story and we thank everyone who took the time to enter. Sue’s overall winner was 10 -year old Toby Cemm, who wrote ‘The Mystery of Monster Island’. Sue commented:
“The first lines had me hooked and excited and from then on it was one drama after another, ending in a great climax. Flying, crashing, poisoning, waterfalls, shipwrecks, volcanos and monsters…Toby’s story gave me an exhausting, exhilarating read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to read more.”
Second place was a charming story by 6 -year old Caroline Huckvale called ‘The Broken House’. Sue said: “I loved some of the descriptions Caroline uses…’bright and beautiful’…’gentle and kind.”
Congratulations to both of them; names to remember for the future! Other entries to note were sent by Anne Baker Mitchell and Georgie Eltenton; well done to them too for their contributions. Storytime is now on holiday for the summer and will return next month – but the competition entries will be available to hear on Facebook over this month.
