FOWL in The Watlington Times

FOWL NEWS

FOWL FA were delighted to be able to host the Rhubarb theatre at the library on Saturday February 1st. The Bookworms delighted just under 100 people over their two performances and interactive storytelling sessions. All who were there really engaged with their wonderfully inventive and musical adventures and we have had some very positive feedback about the day. Our generous donation from the Watlington Times allowed FOWL FA to be able to fund this experience of theatre in the library for the Watlington community.  We are so thankful to them for making this happen.

In other good news, we are also thrilled to have recently been given a donation by the Watlington Phoenix Players, following their extremely successful production of Under Milk Wood last year. FOWL are so grateful to have been the recipient of their generosity and are now busy looking at how we can best use this donation to further develop our activities for the benefit of the Watlington community.

Elsewhere in the FOWL calendar, a fascinating evening was had by all those lucky enough to grab a ticket for Richard Fortey’s talk. A real treat to listen to such an eminent scientist who is also eloquent and passionate about his subject.  On an entirely different note, we are all now looking forward to welcoming crime author Victoria Selman on February 21st to tell us all about her newly published second novel and the world of serial killers. As crime is routinely the most popular genre in the library, I hope that this will be a talk that will have appealed to many readers!

This month we are so honoured to be hosting Lord Jay of Ewelme on March 20th. Lord Jay will be sharing with us his take on Watlington’s historical and literary connections to our nation’s history, in a talk entitled ‘Watlington in the Wider World’. Tickets are already selling well so do pop to the library to secure your place, or if you are in Ewelme, the village shop will also be selling tickets.

Please do come into the library to see what is hanging in our ‘Art in the Library’ space; we are delighted to have joined forces with Watlington ArtWeeks and from now until May you will be able to view a changing exhibition of portraits of the participating artists, all created by the wonderful photographer Eva Nemeth.

Do you know someone who would like to have a visit from the Home Library Service? If you or someone you know has difficulty getting to the library, we can bring some of the library to you! We have a number of volunteers who can come to your home, with a choice of books for you, so that you can continue to benefit from the resources our library has to offer. Just give the library a call on 01491 612241 to arrange a visit.

Lastly, if you are interested in becoming involved in promoting our replica Watlington Hoard, please do come into the library and let us know.
